The 3.6 L FCA Pentastar V6 Engine
The 3.6 L FCA Pentastar V6 Engine is an overwhelmingly durable and reliable engine. That’s why it’s been used in in more than ten million Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles since 2010. With proper maintenance, the 3.6L Pentastar engine can provide years of reliable service.
But—and this is a big but—the 3.6L Pentastar engine isn’t perfect. In particular, there are two issues that you should watch out for: oil consumption and coolant leaks.
Oil consumption is a common problem with the 3.6L Pentastar engine, especially in Jeeps that have over 60,000 miles on them. The fix for this issue can be pricey, but if you’re willing to put in the work yourself it can be done for $200-400 at most.
Coolant leaks are another issue to be aware of—particularly in Wranglers made between 2013-2015—but these leaks are often external and don’t cause any significant engine damage or loss of performance when addressed properly (which is also relatively inexpensive).
